Ingredients

  • 3 oz Kokum Butter

  • 1 oz Coconut Oil

  • 0.5 oz Beeswax

  • Optional: 15 drops Essential Oil of Choice

  • Small jars

Instructions

  1. Using a double boiler, gently melt the kokum butter, coconut oil, and beeswax, stirring frequently
  2. Melt all of the ingredients together for about 30 minutes (minus the essential oils, if added) Note: Never stir beeswax with a metal spoon - always use a wooden spoon or silicone spatula
  3. When melted, remove from heat and set it aside until your mixture is 90F or lower
  4. Now, add the optional essential oil. Adding essential oils to a hot mixture will "kill" the essence and you will wonder why you have to add so much to your recipes
  5. Stir well and pour the mixture into your containers of choice and allow to cool in the fridge until hardened - that's it!

Uses and Benefits

Question: I made a cuticle balm but added a little more of the beeswax than the oils and it came out super hard. So I tried again but this time with less beeswax and more of the oils and it’s more creamy. So for a balm consistency that sort of melts when you rub it with your fingers and it smooths out, does it mean I always have to add less beeswax than oils?

Beeswax will sit on top of skin and provide a barrier, so if you do want more of a melt into skin consistency, you’ll definitely always have to add more oils. Beeswax will always harden in cooler temperatures or in room temperature

Question: Can you use Shea butter as a substitute?

Yes, it will be a little softer consistency but it will work great!
