Zinc oxide is an odorless, white powder that is naturally occurring in the mineral zincite.

Zinc oxide is considered to be non-irritating, non-allergenic, and non-comedogenic.

In skin protectant applications, like a diaper cream, zinc oxide forms a protective barrier on the skin to help treat and prevent various skin conditions including minor abrasions, burns, chafing, diaper rash, insect bites, and skin irritation.

It has also been used for centuries in deodorant products as it helps to prevent unpleasant odors.

Our Zinc Oxide Powder is pharmaceutical grade means which means it is certified by the United States Pharmacopeia and subject to FDA regulation. It has to be 99.99% pure to meet their strict criteria. Only 5% of the entire skin care industry can meet these high standards! We’re also proud to say it’s made and packaged in the USA.

We will only sell non-nano zinc oxide, which means it will not enter the blood stream or absorb into the cells. Instead, it sits on the skin to form a protective barrier against the elements and outside factors. This also greatly reduces the risk of allergic reaction and skin irritation.

I made my own sunscreen / body cream with this very fine powder. It was recommended in the recipe I found, and looks to be as good as reported. I will take it to the beach with me soon and let you know about the protective results.

I purchased this product to make DIY sunblock as I have two children that break out in a rash with regular chemical sunscreen, and my fav natural one has been discontinued. I made up my first batch of sunblock today (using 20% zinc oxide), and was extremely impressed with the results. It far exceeded my expectations! It rubbed on smoothly and the hint of white on skin disappeared quickly. I still have to try it out on the lake for effectiveness, but so far it’s 5 stars.

  7. Ryan Riley

This is great stuff! I use it in my homemade sunscreen and baby rash ointment. It comes professionally packaged and I will reorder this again. I have been through two packages of this already. (I make sunscreen for many other people too.)

My doctor recommended a zinc-oxide based ointment to treat some skin inflammation. But, I am allergic to petroleum based ointments. Running out of ideas I found Better Shea Butter’s pure zinc-oxide powder.

This zinc oxide powder is fantastic. I’m very sensitive to additives in most medications, but this has not triggered any problems for me.

It’s making a huge difference in the inflammation. I’d recommend this to anyone interested in pure, additive-free solution for skin.

Thanks for making a great product.

  12. Angie

The powder was very easy to mix into my home sunscreen formula. Made an SPF 25 and didn’t get burned at all!

Received in a timely manner, very well-packaged…mixed in and dissolved perfectly with my combined melted oils for homemade sunscreen…my sunscreen is very smooth and feels great when applied. I just put a towel over my mouth/nose while adding it in as to not inhale any of the particles, but once mixed in you are good to go. It’s not super light where it poofs up and flies all over the place, so that was nice. I haven’t tested it out yet over a prolonged sun-exposure, but I’m sure it will perform very well…use more for more SPF, less for less. Very satisfied with my first use

As a mother of a 4-month-old, I am naturally super-duper-careful of everything that comes in contact with my baby boy. I have always been a label-reader… and now I do it even more.

Well… I had been struggling with all the choices of lotions and potions to put on his delicate skin. Diaper rash one day, out in the hot California sun the next day. And when you start reading labels, you start to realize that all the “natural” products out there aren’t really that. Call me neurotic, but when I saw all that un-pronounceable junk they put in “baby” sunscreen, diaper rash cream, and even “baby” lotion, I decided to make my own concoctions.

    Soooooooo…. here we go!
I started my experiment with sunblock and got a bunch of very effective and natural recipes on the internet. Since zinc oxide is the core ingredient of any good sunblock, I wanted the good stuff. So I started researching that, too. I had no idea that there were different qualities! From my research I learned, you want to stay away from the “nanonized” stuff because it is absorbed by the body and could potentially cause cancer. The jury may still be out on this, but I don’t like to take chances when it comes to my little one.

    So I got this stuff.
    But does it work?
I made my sunblock at what I estimated to be about 30SPF and I tried it on myself first. My Irish skin is prone to eczema breakouts and cooks to a bright red hue in about 2 minutes flat in the California sun (especially June). I put on a thin layer but due to the nature of zinc oxide, couldn’t get my skin to absorb the stuff completely. So I took my clown-face outside… and 1 hour later I’m still a pale-faced Irish girl 🙂 I have worn many sunscreens, and even Neutrogena’s SPF 100 doesn’t protect me this well.

So yes, I would definitely recommend this product… it works almost even too well!
